built 2011

The area of former gardens was authorised as building land; interested builders and the first residential buildings soon appeared. Although the design stayed within the existing development in type and size in view of legal planning admissibility, planning permission was preceded by intensive arguments as to whether authorisation was possible. After these had been endured and our wishes and those of the owners had prevailed, nothing else stood in the way of realisation.

What came into being is a spacious living unit in the ground and upper floor and a small functional two-room granny-flat in the basement. The challenge of the design lay in connecting the two living units to the garden. The house had to be arranged as to height that the basement flat was sufficiently well lit and that access from the ground floor to the garden was still possible.
