residential house kj in gotha

built 2007

The building was erected in the middle of a part of the town with village character. The extremely narrow property was the inspiration for the long two-floor bar structure, which stretches towards the garden with a fully glazed south façade like a “telescope”. The design idea is conveyed by the longitudinal floor plan and the perspective through the 16 m-long building. The continuous line of windows in the basement, which virtually allows the telescope to float over the terrain, as well as the windows set flush in the façade surface, realise the design theme in the external form.

The central location of the house is the open living and dining area on the ground floor, which opens onto the garden with a fully glazed facade. A two-storey air space gallery creates the connection to the upper floor, where the bedrooms are located. A panoramic view of the district is offered from the loggia in the upper floor, the town of Gotha with Friedenstein Palace out to the Inselsberg mountain.

The north façade towards the street is more closed. Bathrooms and secondary rooms are only lit with narrow window strips. The clear style continues in the interior. Few materials and colours, such as the white plastered walls, the anthracite-coloured floor tiles on the ground floor and in the basement and the cherrywood parquet floor in the upper floor underline the sober and functional character of the residence.
