built 2009

The building area in which this residential house was erected came into being in the 1930s. The monotony of the structures from this time probably characterised the area right into the 1990s. Some buildings from this period had not been renovated and still had their original character; some have recently been renovated and have lost this.

The numerous extensions and alterations on the existing buildings and the newly built “colourful” detached houses mean that the area lacks a clear structure. The goal of the design was to create a structure on the corner property whose architecturally functional style unambiguously references the present time. The two structures, arranged at right angles to and over each other, emphasise the street corner and assimilate the building lines of the two streets.

The large overhang of the upper-floor bar seems to defy gravity and forms an exciting composition with the orthogonally arranged ground-floor structure. The view from the rooms in the upper floor onto the undeveloped green interior of the residential area and further to the Lusatian mountain scenery was also an element of the design approach. The ground floor creates a direct connection to terrace and garden at ground level via large glazings with sliding door and makes allowances for the private life of the owner.
