The challenge for the property with an uninterrupted view of the Wachsenburg was to design a residential house that, on the one hand, was right for the prominent position, and on the other took into account the distinctive topography, with a difference in height of 10 m. In order for the house not to appear too bulky on the hill, structures in smaller sections were selected. As much cubic capacity as possible should be shifted to the slope.

Through diffusion in a steel construction, the exposed parts of the structure were given an optical airiness, which is also reflected in the choice of materials for the facades. Smooth white plaster alternates with glass fronts, making an unobtrusive impression in the landscape. The airiness of the “floating” upper floor is underscored through the choice of façade cladding of patinated copper cassettes – a material recalling old church roofs.

The upper floor rests on a base blended with dark clinker. Clinker – a material that stands for stability and solidity; these contrasts in construction and choice of material consciously generate a moment of tension and simultaneously set the building in the scene in charming fashion.

There is an unrestricted view to the west from the “floating” living room and the loggia of the fortress complex. To the east, the dining area is connected to the higher area of the property via large sliding doors. The terrace widens out into a structurally composed yard, which has a very private character and is protected from view.
