horngasse 3/4 in erfurt

(augustinian brew)

The two houses built next to each other are in the historical Erfurt city centre, directly on the waterfront of the Breitstrom with an unimpeded view of the northern rows of houses of the Krämer bridge.

The quarter behind the Krämer bridge was originally densely populated. However, the former mediaeval structure is no longer discernible. Today, the two buildings form a single isolated listed building complex. The house Horngasse 3, “House of the golden Thistle”, probably dates from the 13th century. The adjacent Renaissance portal represents the remains of the original neighbouring building. The building Horngasse 4, “House at stone Corner”, was probably built at the start of the 14th century. Both houses experienced multiple alterations and renovations in the 20th century.

Until the start of the 19th century the building complex was used as a hospital and student hospital; until the end of the 20th century as an office building by the state of Thuringia. After standing empty for a lengthy period, the building ensemble was acquired by the Edith-Haberland-Wagner Foundation, a partner of the Augustinian Brewery in Munich, and converted into an inn. Our company was commissioned with the design planning and planning application.
